IFS Solutions Indonesia has announced amendments to the composition of the Company’s Board of Director (BoD) at an Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders held in Menara Anugrah, Mega Kuningan Jakarta, August 25, 2008.

Elan Syuherlan, previously Consulting and Support Director for IFS Solutions Indonesia has been appointed President Director replacing Uun Widhi Untoro. The company also approved the resignation of Uun Widhi Untoro.

Elan Syuherlan acquires wide-ranging experience in the area of information technology. He has spent the majority of his career and undertaken various roles in the industry. He graduated from Indonesia University with a degree in electro engineering.

Meningkatkan Produktivitas Industri Perkebunan Dan Pengolahan Kelapa Sawit Dengan IT

Sektor perkebunan kelapa sawit merupakan penghasil devisa nonmigas terbesar di tanah air. Sayang, sektor ini belum digarap secara profesional. Hampir 80% industri kelapa sawit yang menghasilkan crude palm oil (CPO) belum memanfaatkan IT, khususnya aplikasi enterprise resource planning (ERP), untuk mengintegrasikan proses bisnis mereka dari hulu ke hilir. Akibatnya, perusahaan tidak dapat memantau proses produksi dan menanggulangi kemungkinan-kemungkinan turunnya produksi sejak awal.

Fakta Industri Kelapa Sawit

Ketika ditanya penyebab rendahnya perhatian perusahaan kelapa sawit terhadap pemanfaatan IT di lingkungan perusahaan mereka, Rahardjo D.H Yulianto, Project Manager PT IFS Solutions Indonesia, yang berhasil ditemui Premium Connection di kantornya menjelaskan bahwa kebanyakan perusahaan tersebut masih terlena dengan luasnya lahan garapan mereka serta kebun yang masih berproduksi.

Lebih lanjut Rahardjo mengatakan bahwa harga komoditas kelapa sawit sangat ditentukan oleh kebutuhan pasar kebijakan pemerintah. Perusahaan sama sekali tidak dapat mengontrol harga, demikian pula dengan suplai kelapa sawit karena hasilnya sangat bergantung pada kondisi alam yang sulit untuk diprediksi. Dengan kata lain, terdapat beberapa faktor dalam proses produksi dan penentuan harga yang tidak bisa dikontrol sepenuhnya oleh perusahaan.

Saat ini, terang Rahardjo, harga kelapa sawit sedang tinggi karena selain dibutuhkan untuk industri pangan dan kimia, sekarang muncul euforia untuk menggunakan CPO sebagai bahan bakar pengganti minyak bumi, khususnya di negara-negara Eropa. Sedangkan suplai CPO dunia ditentukan oleh Indonesia, sebagai produsen CPO terbesar di dunia, dan Malaysia di urutan kedua.

Hal ini dikuatkan oleh Yudi Dermawan, Ketua Program Studi Teknologi Pengolahan Hasil Perkebunan, Politeknik Kelapa Sawit, Citra Widya Edukasi yang juga ditemui Premium Connection di kantornya. Menurut Yudi, booming permintaan minyak kelapa sawit di negara-negara Eropa, selain sebagai bahan bakar alternatif, juga dipicu oleh hasil penemuan pada 2005 yang mengungkapkan bahwa minyak goreng dari kelapa sawit merupakan minyak goreng yang tersehat. Kandungan senyawa kimia alaminya mampu meluruhkan kolesterol yang tersimpan di dalam tubuh manusia.

Belakangan ini banyak pengusaha atau perusahaan dari berbagai sektor mengembangkan bisnisnya ke bidang perkebunan kelapa sawit. Sampoerna, Gudang Garam, Bentoel, dan Gobel adalah sebagian kecil perusahaan besar yang mulai berkecimpung di kelapa sawit. Bahkan beberapa perkebunan di luar kelapa sawit mulai mengkonversikan lahannya menjadi perkebunan kelapa sawit.

Tingginya permintaan CPO dunia dan antusiasme para investor belum mendapatkan respons yang seimbang. Industri CPO di Indonesia masih bertumbuh secara horizontal. Artinya, peruahaan-perusahaan memperbanyak lahan, memperluas dan mengakuisisi kebun dan sebagainya. Seperti yang kita ketahui, pada titik tertentu pertumbuhan lahan akan terhenti, baik secara fisik maupun kualitas.

ERP untuk Industri Kelapa Sawit

Selain harga yang ditentukan sepenuhnya oleh pasar serta kebijakan pemerintah, karakteristik lainnya dari industri CPO adalah padat modal. Perusahaan harus mempersiapkan investasi untuk tiga tahun pertama, ketika perkebunan belum berproduksi. Jika investasi terhenti di tahun kedua, misalnya, maka semua modal yang telah ditanamkan akan hilang.

Di luar faktor-faktor di atas, terdapat beberapa faktor yang dapat dikontrol oleh perusahaan, yakni biaya langsung dan tidak langsung, efisiensi, dan produktivitas. Selama ini, banyak industri kelapa sawit yang masih menerapkan manajemen tradisional.

Masalah-masalah kecil yang berdampak besar bagi perusahaan pun kerap terjadi, misalnya pihak manajemen yang melakukan transaksi penjualan tanpa mengetahui persis jumlah CPO yang tersedia di pabrik mereka. Belum lagi kebocoran yang terjadi di lapangan tidak dapat terkontrol oleh pihak manajemen. “Tanpa pengawasan yang terintegrasi, losses di lapangan bisa mencapai 8%,” tegas Yudi.

Solusi dari permasalah ini adalah menerapkan ERP yang memantau setiap proses bisnis yang berlangsung di industri kelapa sawit dari hulu ke hilir, Dengan aplikasi ini, perusahaan dapat mengintegrasikan dan mengontrol setiap proses bisnis yang berlangsung, mulai dari perkebunan, pabrik pangolahan, kantor cabang, dan kantor pusat. Perusahaan juga dapat menghitung setiap aktivitas yang dilakukan, membandingkan kondisi sebelum dan keadaan sesudah sebuah aktivitas dilaksanakan.

Dari sisi logistik, untuk menekan biaya, perusahaan dapat melakukan sentralisasi pembelian bibit, pupuk, pestisida, dan sebagainya, serta mengatur keluar masuk barang sesuai dengan wilayah yang membutuhkannya. Perusahaan juga mampu menghitung setiap biaya dan anggaran yang dibutuhkan dalam setiap aktivitas, mengontrol transaksi dari beberapa perkebunan dan perusahaan, mempersingkat financial close-cycle, serta pajak.

Tantangan Penerapan ERP

Tantangan terbesar penerapan ERP di industri-industri kelapa sawit di Indonesia terletak pada “kesadaran” pelaku industri ini bahwa mereka membutuhkan peningkatan efisiensi dan efektivitas dalam setiap proses bisnis yang berlangsung.

Sebagai perbandinga, di Malaysia semua industri kelapa sawit telah memanfaatkan IT. Mereka mendapat sokongan penuh dari pemerintah Malaysia yang membangunkan infrastruktur komunikasi di wilayah-wilayah perkebunan dan pengolahan kelapa sawit. “Walaupun dari luas areal lahan dan produksi CPO Indonesia melampaui Malaysia, namun dari segi keuntungan, Malaysia masih jauh di atas Indonesia,” kata Yudi.

Perusahaan juga harus mempersiapkan perangkat-perangkat yang dibutuhkan untuk menunjang aplikasi ini. Perangkat yang paling kritikal, selain penyiapan SDM yang melek IT, adalah jaringan komunikasi data. VSAT merupakan solusi jaringan komunikasi data bagi lokasi perkebunan dan kantor cabang yang biasanya terletak jauh dari kota dan belum terjangkau jaringan komunikasi terrestrial.

Selain memanfaatkan VSAT sebagai pendukung aplikasi ERP, perkebunan dapat menggunakannya untuk percakapan VoIP, videoconference, video surveillance, dan lain-lain. IFS Jalin Kerjasama dengan SBM-ITB

PT IFS Solution Indonesia (IFS) menjalin kerjasama dengan School of Business and Management ITB dalam penyediaan perangkat lunak aplikasi bisnis. Melalui kerjasama ini, sistem aplikasi IFS akan digunakan sebagai aplikasi komputer pada Program Pengembangan Laboratorium Manajemen Bisnis terapan SBM-ITB.

Tujuan kerjasama ini adalah mempersiapkan lulusan institut pendidikan SBM-ITB agar siap pakai serta dapat memberikan kontribusi maksimal dalam dunia bisnis dengan menerapkan teori manajemen yang diperoleh dalam kuliah ke dalam dunia bisnis dengan bantuan teknologi informasi.

Selain itu, melalui program ini diharapkan terdapat perbaikan pada sistem belajar gaya lama, dengan mengadaptasi metode studi baru yang lebih nyata sesuai keadaan lapangan yang secara global telah banyak memanfaatkan teknologi informasi, khususnya solusi perangkat lunak.

Menurut Uun Widhi Untoro, Presiden Direktur IFS, dengan terbentuknya kerjasama ini diharapkan semua pihak yang terkait baik secara langsung maupun tidak bisa merasakan manfaatnya. SBM-ITB juga diharapkan bisa mendapatkan solusi manajemen bisnis terkini. Sedangkan bagi IFS, kerjasama ini akan memberikan awareness akan solusi bisnis enterprise yang tersedia.

Sementara itu, bagi masyarakat industri dan bisnis, Uun mengatakan bahwa kerjasama ini akan memberikan kontribusi berupa dihasilkannya profesional bisnis yang siap pakai. “Kerjasama ini akan memberikan manfaat yang besar bagi semua pihak,” ujarnya. IFS Applications helps major Indonesian corporation modernize operations while cutting costs

With sales in excess of US$ 50 million, PT Pupuk Kujang is one of the biggest producers of fertilizer in Indonesia, supplying both the home and export markets. To meet the challenges of a growing export market and the turn of the millennium, the company realized it needed to improve its management information system (MIS) and rationalize its cost structure. But it was not just a change of systems that PT Pupuk Kujang, Indonesia, desired. The company also wanted to achieve a change in the behavior of its employees, raise their level of competence, and implement a shift in responsibility down to employee level. To accomplish these goals, PT Pupuk Kujang turned to the component-based IFS Applications to provide the flexibility and speed of access to business-critical information required by modern enterprises regardless of their geographic location.

The problem

PT Pupuk Kujang planned a major overhaul of its IT environment, looking for a solution that would provide the basis for enhanced long-term and short-term planning. The MIS in place was very departmentalized, and almost all information input was done manually. Moreover, run on a mainframe computer, and with the turn of the millennium in the offing, the company realized that making its legacy system Year 2000 compliant would be very expensive. The system was quite simply unable to meet the demands placed on it by a modern company. PT Pupuk Kujang, therefore, realized that it needed an automated, integrated solution that would increase the speed and accuracy of reporting, affording it greater control over its business processes and costs.

The solution

PT Pupuk Kujang employed consultants to analyze user requirements before investing in a new system. After examining what a number of business applications vendors, major global players as well as local suppliers, had to offer, the company opted for IFS Applications. “IFS was the only vendor that could provide us with the applications that would enable us to fulfill our plans, short-term as well as long-term,” according to Tossin Sutawikara, IT Implementation Project Manager at PT Pupuk Kujang.

Implementation

Beginning in July 1999, solutions for the first phase, financials, distribution and human resources, were implemented. According to Tossin Sutawikara: “The implementation went very smoothly. Projects like these can take up to a year. We were ready after eight months, on time and to budget. The support from IFS has been very good.” IFS’ implementation strategy consisted of training sessions, supported by workshops and conference room pilots. Weekly feedback meant that issues could be tackled and solved very quickly. In typical IFS fashion, knowledge transfer, more than mere implementation, was the ultimate goal. The second phase, including solutions for maintenance, marketing, manufacturing, and decision support, is scheduled to be completed by January, 2001. Benefits

The most obvious benefit is that the company now has a modern integrated suite of business applications. Previously, all the information was generated by the management information system (MIS), which was unwieldy and not always reliable. Now the sources of information are more evenly distributed and the MIS simply administers the system. Thanks to IFS Applications, PT Pupuk Kujang can now create a database of integrated information systems and create its own set of business rules. For example, once a decision is made, it can be effected immediately throughout the entire organization. In addition, financial reports, previously done by external consultants, can now be issued more quickly and with greater flexibility, e.g. as spreadsheets, graphic reports, etc. Using IFS/Business Performance, company executives, too, will benefit from having access to three-dimensional analysis of corporate data, providing them with an added strategic advantage. Furthermore, competence levels in the company have been raised significantly, and with this, employee responsibility has increased. Since all input into the system is traceable, it is easier to isolate sources of error or areas where competence is lacking and quickly take appropriate measures. IFS Applications also facilitates expansion since it is based on globally available standards, and its component architecture is geared for scalability. As a result, investment costs will decrease. “IFS is generally more efficient in terms of cost,” claims Tossin Sutawikara. All in all, the use of IFS Applications has lowered the total cost of ownership for PT Pupuk Kujang.
